Itinerary
Arrive at Paro International Airport and receive a warm Bhutanese welcome. Begin your journey with a short stop at the charming Tamchog Lhakhang en route to Thimphu. In the capital, visit the magnificent Buddha Dordenma overlooking the valley and explore Tashichho Dzong, a striking fortress-monastery that houses the King’s office.
Start the day at the Memorial Chorten, a vibrant site of daily worship. Visit the Institute of Zorig Chusum to observe students learning Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts. Explore the Folk Heritage Museum and Changangkha Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Thimphu. Enjoy a stroll through the Centenary Farmer’s Market (if visiting on a weekend) and browse for souvenirs in local artisan shops.
Drive up to Dochula Pass (3,100 m), famed for its panoramic Himalayan views and the 108 memorial chortens. Pause for tea and photo opportunities. Return to Paro in the afternoon. Explore Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most revered temples, believed to date back to the 7th century. Optional: Try a traditional hot stone bath in the evening.
Embark on a scenic hike to Taktsang Monastery, famously known as Tiger’s Nest. Clinging dramatically to a cliffside, this sacred site is a must-visit for every traveler. Take in the spiritual ambiance and enjoy views of the Paro Valley before descending.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast with final glimpses of the serene mountains before transferring to the airport for your onward journey.
